Residential Moving Service FAQ
1. When should I call a moving company?
Although the actual job of packing the truck may not be until a few days before your residential move, the earlier you call a moving company, the better. Your residential moving service should be notified of your move four to six weeks before to give them enough preparation time to meet your delivery schedule. Calling them early on also gives you the chance to call them to help you with packing items for you. Many moving services offer more than just loading, driving, and offloading.
2. When is the best time to move?
Moving companies will often suggest that you don’t move during the summer, at the end of the month, or at the end-of-year holidays. This is because summer and holidays have the heaviest demands placed on trucks, personnel, and equipment. However, Firemen Movers has the resources necessary to work with your moving schedule.
3. Do I need to be present when the movers are there?
You must be present on your moving day to sign paperwork and show the movers exactly what needs to be moved. Once they load the truck, you will be required to do a full walk-through to make sure nothing was forgotten.
4. How long does it take to move?
Moving times depend on a number of factors including the time of year, weather conditions, shipment size, time needed to load and unload, and the distance and direction of your new home. Thanks to Firemen Movers’ up-to-date dispatching system, our dates are scheduled according to the origins and destinations of truck shipments and weight.
5. Do I need an estimate?
Some home moving services may require a visit to your home to conduct a visual survey of all the items you need moved to your new home. They will determine the approximate cost based on these items and their weight and present you with a written estimate. Getting an estimate is a good idea to help you know exactly what you’re paying for.
6. Can I change my moving date?
It is preferred that you contact your movers as soon as possible if you need to change your moving date. Keep in mind that your estimate may change when you adjust your moving date.
7. Is there anything that can’t be moved?
Yes. By law, hazardous materials and pressurized gas containers of any kind are not able to be moved by moving companies. There are other hazardous materials moving services that can help you, but they are generally used for commercial purposes.
8. How will the large items be moved (i.e. dressers, refrigerators, etc.)?
Our team will unhook and hookup your appliances such as your refrigerator, dryer, freezer, and washing machine. As for large furniture like beds and dressers, we can properly carry them to your new home safely.
9. Is there a weight limit of the items you can move?
We have no weight limit and have successfully transported many heavy objects.
10. What type of packing and unpacking services do you offer?
You can pack as much or a little as you want at the time of your move. Or, with enough notice ahead of time, we can pack your entire shipment. Our team is here to personalize your move process and make the transition as smooth as possible.
